Round Two Summer Series completed
The second round of the HI-Q NZ Formula First Summer Series was
held at the Taupo IRC Meeting over the November 19/20th 2016 weekend.
The Sabre Team had put in a lot of very productive work following round one.
All engines returned to the dyno to be maximized for round two, and with some
new combinations the team felt they had improved top end performance.
This was our drivers first visit to the Taupo circuit so we were going to need
all the mileage we could get, unfortunately there was a red flag in every session
the last one forcing the closure of the track and the offending car to the relief of
everyone was trailered away. This left our Drivers with just 18 timed laps on
this very demanding track, simply not enough time to get to grips with a real
So while the Engine performance was confirmed on the track we didn’t get the yeld
we might have expected.
Qualifying midfield at Taupo will always make your weekend tough, but we managed
to improve our series standings for two Drivers Dylan up to 6th overall and second Rookie
and Alex to 9th, Unfortunately Callum dropped to 12th following a throttle cable failure
and a poor race three result.
But the Team came away confident that we have the car performance to see the
podium this season once we get the combinations working right.
Our next round will be Hampton Downs January 28/29th 2017.
